Lambie YouTube film shows Finance Minister tap dancing with a Financial Transactions Tax question.

Independent Senator for Tasmania, Jacqui Lambie has released a new YouTube short film, which shows her questioning the Liberal Government’s Finance Minister in the Australian Senate about the establishment of a Financial Transactions Tax (FTT).

“At the last sitting of Parliament, I launched a plan which could raise up to an extra $1.4B of revenue p/a by introducing a Financial Transactions Tax. I propose to link that tax revenue to aged Australians’ and Veterans’ pensions.” said Senator Lambie

I’m disappointed that neither the government – nor the opposition have taken the time to properly consider and debate my plan to protect and boost our pensions through a targeted FTT – that would only affect about half a dozen high frequency share trading companies – which I’m told, account for 30% of the financial trades in Australia… 70% in the US.” said Senator Lambie.

“In my film you can see how uncomfortable the liberal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann is answering my question about a FTT. He knows that any Tax Reform debate in Australia should include a discussion about a FTT – and that his government has been caught out protecting their big business friends from a tax that most of Europe will have in place in the next 12months.

If we are going to have a debate about Tax reform – lets have a fair dinkum one. Not a pretend debate that is slyly manipulated by both sides of politics to avoid even a mention or discussion about the merits of a Financial Transactions Tax – in order to protect their big business mates.” said Senator Lambie.
