Labor’s support of Tasmania’s salmon industry unquestionable
Labor Leader Bryan Green said today for the State Liberals to suggest Labor is anything other than totally supportive of Tasmania’s salmon industry is absolutely ridiculous.
“I have met with the industry since the Senate inquiry was announced, I wonder whether the Liberals have,” Mr Green said.
“Labor is in lock-step with Tasmania’s salmon industry and I know it is looking forward to allowing people to understand all the mechanisms that are in place to ensure its sustainability.
“Labor has worked hard to expand the salmon industry and for the Liberals to suggest otherwise is a complete load of rubbish and shows how pathetic they are.
“As Minister, I approved the expansion of salmon farming in Macquarie Harbor because based on science it is sustainable.
“It is the Liberals themselves who have eroded confidence in how the industry is managed by trying to scrap the Marine Farming Planning Review Panel, a decision they have now hastily back flipped on.”
