Simple Question on Public School Funding, Still No Answer from Minister

Posted on

Minister for Education Jeremy Rockliff has yet again refused to provide details to the Tasmanian people on the amount of funding he has cut from public schools this year, Greens Education spokesperson Nick McKim MP said today.

“The question is very simple: how much money have public schools lost this school year compared to last?”

“It is a simple matter of Ministerial accountability that this question be answered.”

“If the Minister is serious that public schools have more funds than last year as he claims, can he explain why are so many of them are having to increase class sizes?”

“Why are so many public schools cutting programs including literacy, numeracy, language, drama and music?”

“Why are so many school camps and excursions being cut in public schools?”

“Why are so many public school parents now having to organise work experience for their children when previously this was done by schools?”

“Why are so many public school principals now having to spend time in the classroom when they previously have not?”

“Mr Rockliff is clearly floundering in his portfolio, and either cannot or will not answer this most basic of questions.”

“Mr Rockliff’s arrogance and secrecy is typical of this government, which is continually refusing to answer the most basic of questions in the education, health and child protection portfolios,” Mr McKim said.
