SENATOR BILYK CALLS ON MALCOLM TURNBULL …
… TO PUT THE REST OF TASMANIA ON THE UPDATED NBN ROLLOUT MAP
Senator Catryna Bilyk today called on Malcolm Turnbull to commit to the completion of the National Broadband Network rollout in Tasmania when he releases the updated NBN rollout plan.
Senator Bilyk said that under Labor most of the state was scheduled to get the world class fibre to the premises NBN—the NBN that delivers super-fast internet speeds using fibre optic cable—by 2015.
“Instead, at least 85,000 premises will be receiving an inferior fibre-to-the-node service with the connection from the node to their home or business delivered via the ageing copper network,” Senator Bilyk said.
“Many thousands more homes and businesses have been left off the map by Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull and residents of these suburbs have no idea when they will be getting the NBN or what kind of connection they will have.”
Among the suburbs in Greater Hobart missing from the NBN Co rollout map are Rokeby, Clarendon Vale, Tranmere, Lauderdale, Moonah, Bridgewater and Gagebrook.
Malcolm Turnbull promised that areas with the poorest service would be the first to get the NBN:
“Suburbs, regions, towns and business districts with the poorest services and greatest need for upgrades will receive first priority.”
Coalition plan for a better NBN, 25th July 2013.
“He has broken that promise and Tasmanians are paying the price for the Government’s lies,” said Senator Bilyk.
“This Government has lied about health funding, lied about education funding, lied about cutting the pension, lied about cutting funding to the ABC and SBS and they have lied about the NBN.”
