Peacemaking comes to Northern Tasmania
Can you imagine escorting kindergarten children to school each day in some of the most violent places on earth? Or standing between civilians and heavily armed militia to defuse tensions and avoid confrontation?
Courageous bands of young people from Christian Peacemaker Teams are doing these things every day in various hot spots around the globe. The international executive officer of CPT, Sarah Thompson, will be in the Launceston area this weekend.
Ms Thompson hails from the United States. She is in Australia providing inspiration and training in methods of non-violent action that can enhance harmony in troubled communities.
She will be running sessions in the Liffey Valley on Saturday morning. She will also speak at a free evening at City Baptist Church, 11 Frederick Street, at 7.30pm on Tuesday night.
This is a great opportunity to hear an outstanding international speaker, enjoy the music of Ben McKinnon and Del Bergsma, engage in Q&A and chat over supper.
Jeff McKinnon, City Baptist Church.
