Liberals must guarantee Cadbury money is spent in Tasmania
The Federal Liberal Government has an obligation to guarantee every cent of $16 million promised to Cadbury is spent in Tasmania.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said it’s been an embarrassing day for the Liberals.
“Tasmania has been let down badly by Tony Abbott,” Mr Green said.
“He’s let the opportunity to create a world class tourism opportunity slip through his fingers.
“The Liberals promised huge job creation would flow from the investment in Cadbury and it’s amounted to absolutely nothing.
“The Prime Minister must now guarantee the money is still spent here in Tasmania.
“Labor advocated for the $16 million to be brought home to help the West Coast following the closure of the Mt Lyell copper mine.
“Now the Cadbury project has fallen through, the West Coast should benefit from at least a significant portion of the $16 million.
“Controversy has surrounded the Coalition’s promise to Cadbury with questions raised over who lobbied the Prime Minister for the money.
“It would appear the Prime Minister has today chosen to scrape another barnacle from the hull of his government.
“But this is more than a discarded barnacle for Tasmania, it’s a broken promise on job creation and a missed opportunity when it comes to tourism.”
