A shocking admission by Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff that he was ‘proud’ of his growing list of Ministerial failures raises doubts over whether he is up to the job.

“Jeremy Rockliff says he’s proud of his record of sacking teachers, slashing funding to TAFE, cutting front line quarantine jobs and misleading Tasmanian schools over funding increases,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.

“Today the Minister tried to claim a $4 contract is proof the Government’s buy local campaign is working, despite the fact that more than $2.5 million for IT projects and $4.3 million in training funding has gone interstate.

“Strangely, since the question was asked this morning the amount on the tender website was amended from $4 to $0.

“What a joke!

“Mr Rockliff’s performance as a Minister has sunk to a new low.

“Mr Rockliff is a captive of the Liberal Government’s media spin doctors because he clearly can’t think for himself.

“He continually dodges direct questions in Parliament and reverts to political spin.

“Bragging about a contract worth a grand total of $0 is an insult to all those Tasmanian companies missing out on Government work.

“No amount of political spin can hide the fact Tasmanian companies are losing out to interstate companies under the Minister’s watch.”
