Community Gathers to Show their Support for Elderly Couple Facing Homelessness

Posted on

Members of the West Hobart Community will come together this Sunday at a community fundraising event being held in support of Bill and Sue Bostock, formerly of BP West Hobart, who stand to lose their family home if they are unable to raise $50,000 within 14 days to pay an outstanding business debt.

Since the forced closure of their business in 2010, when their lease was not renewed, Bill, who turned 74 last week, has been unable to gain full-time work. In the last year, Bill has undergone radiation therapy for cancer, was hospitalised with septicaemia and has battled with other serious health issues. His wife is on a disability pension due to poor health.

Last weekend, supportive neighbours and friends delivered 3,600 flyers throughout neighbourhood and, with the support of the media, almost $5,500 has been raised so far.
Further funds will be raised this Sunday at the Bill Bostock Benefit, to be held at the Queens Head Hotel. Musical entertainment will be provided by Ian Paulin, Rowan Smith and Mark Clemens, there will be tarot readings by Sara Hewitt, CD sales and a silent auction. Entry is $10. Everyone is welcome!
