The Liberal Government has embarrassingly refused to reintroduce its own Buy Local legislation.
Labor’s Shadow Minister for Small Business Madeleine Ogilvie today highlighted the Liberal Government’s hypocrisy on supporting local businesses.
Ms Ogilvie said the Liberal Party’s Buy Local policy was a cruel joke and was not enshrined in legislation.
“There has been no legislated change when it comes to the government tender process,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“Labor has highlighted that more than $10 million in lucrative contracts have gone to businesses interstate and overseas in the last few months alone.
“This is despite promises from the Liberals that they would change the rules to give Tasmanian businesses a greater chance at winning tenders.
“If the Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Adam Brooks, was serious about buying locally, he would reintroduce his legislation from the last parliament.”
Adam Brooks today indicated that he would not be reintroducing the bill.
“It’s time Adam Brooks and his colleagues were honest with Tasmanian businesses and admit they have changed absolutely nothing.”
