Bellerive Boardwalk fiesta celebrations in Cricket World Cup honour

Posted on

There’s a flavour of excitement in the air in Clarence as the International Cricket World Cup draws near, with cricket fans expected to descend on the Bellerive Oval from all over Tasmania and the world.

In honour of the Cricket World Cup, the Bellerive Boardwalk is hosting a free carnival experience, Viva la Boardwalk Cricket Fiesta, offering fresh produce, culinary delights and free Cup themed craft activities for the whole family.

Clarence Mayor Alderman Doug Chipman said with the combination of the newly refurbished Bellerive Oval, the best players from five nations and the possibility of a knock-out match, Tasmania was in for a thrilling experience.

“It’s a great honour for us to have three International Cricket World Cup games at our home ground and Clarence City Council has decided to celebrate by getting in the spirit with a fiesta,” Mayor Chipman said.

“The Cup is set to excite and entertain audiences, and the Viva la Boardwalk Cricket Fiesta is a perfect way to kick off the cricket festivities, ideal for people on their way to the ground, for families looking for an outing, as well as for folks looking to buy some fresh farm produce.

“The Fiesta will be starting each morning before the matches and will roll along until the coin toss, offering cricket fans the opportunity to get painted in team colours (face and hair), grab some delicious food, and get pumped up by music from DJ Steamshanks.

“Families don’t need to be going to the cricket to get in the spirit. The kid’s activity area will be humming with free art craft and circus activities, with ice-cream and other treats close at hand.

“If you’re after some fresh Tasmanian produce, the Viva la Boardwalk Cricket Fiesta is also a great opportunity to pick up seasonal foods prepared by stallholders from the Bellerive Community Farmers Market.”
