$33 million must now fund essential services
The Labor Opposition has today called on the Liberal Government to redirect $33 million earmarked for Swire Shipping.
Shadow Infrastructure Minister Craig Farrell welcomes the Federal Government’s investment in the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme.
“Industry advocates have lobbied hard to achieve a good outcome,” Mr Farrell said.
“The State Government must now redirect $33 million offered to Swire Shipping into supporting essential services.
“The Liberals have a chance to repair some of the damage they’ve done to frontline services.
“Rene Hidding’s policy to hand $33 million to a private company was flawed from the beginning.
“The money would be much better spent supporting the type of services the Liberals are cutting.
“Health and education are a higher priority than providing $33 million to an international shipping company.”
