After years of misleading Tasmanians, Peter Gutwein has finally been caught out when it comes to cutting supplies and consumables.

Labor Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said Mr Gutwein promised Tasmanians he would cut waste and spend it on essential services.

“The Treasurer claimed he could save $119 million over four years on supplies and consumables but after just 8 months he’s already blown his budget by $22.7 million,” Mr Bacon said.

“Today’s Revised Estimates Report makes a lie of Peter Gutwein’s target.

“Before the election Mr Gutwein refused to say what sort of items could be cut but he repeatedly insisted significant savings could be made.

“Now there’s a big black hole in the Liberal Government’s budget.

“Will the Treasurer slash more frontline jobs to make up for the shortfall? Or will he revise his unrealistic targets?

“This is on top of the Liberals’ promise not to cut frontline services, when in reality teachers and nurses have been sacked.

“Peter Gutwein pretended it could be all gain and no pain but he’s been caught red handed.”
