Tasmanian Red Meat Industry Strategic Plan on track
Key players in the Tasmanian Red Meat Industry (TRMI) are one step closer to finalising a strategic plan that aims to see the sector become the best in the world for quality and reliable supply.
Since Identifying the need for a plan to take the state’s red meat industry forward into the future, the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association has hosted a number of workshops with representatives from across the supply chain in order to develop a framework to capitalise on what is a potentially billion dollar industry.
The most recent workshop saw the drafting of an operational plan, and the establishment of a representative council to act as a board of management (TRMIC).
TFGA meat council member and Derwent Valley farmer Brett Hall was appointed as the inaugural chairman of the TRMIC.
The TRMI Strategic Plan has three key themes: securing the industry’s production base, improving market access, and information and communication.
It includes both the domestic and export meat markets; and its definition of red meat includes the sheep meat, goat meat and beef sectors in Tasmania.
Mr Hall said that stakeholder meetings would be held throughout the State in the coming months and the draft TRMI Strategic Plan would be circulated amongst the wider industry for comment.
“We will continue to collaborate with industry stakeholders and welcome any constructive input that will add value to the final plan,’’ he said.
The final TRMI Strategic Plan is due for release in May. It will also be presented at the TFGA’s annual policy forum in July.
