People engaged in art-making have it easy in some ways — they can give expression to their deepest thoughts and feelings in an ineffable way.

They can make art without ever uttering a word and the art can communicate at the most visceral level.

Of course, it needs to be viewed by receptive and sympathetic viewers for this exchange to take place and that is part of the mystery.

In 2013, I lost my husband very unexpectedly and suddenly.

After the initial shock and grief of that after a lifetime together, I found the one thing I could do to assuage the deep sorrow of loss and the longing was to throw myself into making art.

It poured out of me — it was a deep need that I had to attend to and it was very healing.

What poured out was a series I called “Sorrowful Songs”.

They are all small mixed-media sculptural pieces.

I thought it was time to share them …
