Service Changes at Roy Fagan Centre

Posted on

The 10-bed Jasmine Unit at the Roy Fagan Centre in Lenah Valley will close in April due to a withdrawal of Commonwealth Government funding.

This is extremely disappointing but unfortunately despite ongoing discussions with the Federal Government they have declined to allocate further funding to the National Partnership Agreement which funded this service.

It is important to note that in the absence of Commonwealth funding dementia clients will continue to receive excellent care and high quality support at the Roy Fagan Centre through state-funded services.

Staff have been informed of the decision this morning and now have begun the process of notifying clients and their carers.

Arrangements will be made for all existing clients of the Jasmine Unit to receive ongoing care at the Roy Fagan Centre and in partnership with the broader aged care sector in southern Tasmania.

Staff and unions are being kept informed of the changes with staff opportunities being located across Southern Mental Health Services.

The Roy Fagan Centre operates as an inpatient facility for older people with mental illness or complex dementia, providing 32 beds.
