New Cookbook a Highlight of Community Based Support Conference

Posted on

The Liberal Government is committed to supporting non-government organisation such as Community Based Support, which, as its name suggests, provides support to help people to remain living independently in the community.

Today, I had the pleasure of officially opening the Community Based Support second annual conference for aged and disability care staff.

More than 5000 frail older people, people living with disability, people with mental illness and their carers receive support from Community Based Support in Tasmania each year.

The annual conference is an excellent way to continue to improve and expand upon the skills and knowledge of Community Based Support’s 300 staff members.

At the event I was also please to launch the Community Based Support Cookbook.

The cookbook was first developed in 2008 by a small group of staff and clients who aimed to create a healthy eating guide for staff who prepared food for clients, and started with 17 recipes, food safety and hygiene and healthy eating tips.

The latest version has progressed to include allergy and kilojoules information and has been vetted by dietician, nutritionist and author Ngairie Hobbins.

The end result is a practical cookbook that will be sent to around 700 Community Based Support clients and 300 staff free of charge.
