Investing in our future Rural Leaders

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government is pleased to invest in our future leaders by providing $40,000 over four years to the Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania.

Today, I was delighted to sign the grant deed with Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania and speak at its Annual General Meeting.

The Supporting Rural Youth grant will enable RYOT to develop projects that give young people the chance to develop leadership skills and their confidence.

RYOT shares in our belief that leadership fosters strong rural communities. It helps communities determine their future and take the actions needed to turn it into reality.

RYOT through networking, personal development and sharing of knowledge, creates a sustainable support system for our young people working in and connected to our primary industries.

The positive role of our young people in primary industries is no more evident than AgFest – the flagship event in the Tasmanian agricultural calendar that RYOT organise each May.

The Liberal Government understands that our primary industries are a valuable competitive strength, and to grow our primary industries we need people with the right skills.

That’s why we’re supporting RYOT and also investing $6.5 million over four years through our Cultivating Prosperity in Agriculture policy.

Together with agriculture’s next generation we believe we can grow the value of Tasmania’s agricultural produce ten-fold to $10 billion a year by 2050.
