BUS TOUR EXPOSES WORKERS TO ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS SECTOR
The Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council (ATDC) is holding bus tours statewide to give employees outside the alcohol and other drugs sector exposure to services within the sector.
The Hobart based bus tour on Friday 27 February is the second tour and will showcase Anglicare, Headspace/The Link, The Hobart Clinic, Bethlehem House, Alcohol and Drug Services, Salvation Army Bridge Program, Eureka Club House and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.
ATDC CEO Jann Smith said this is a great opportunity for employees from other industries to network, gain an insight to what services are available and generally learn about the sector overall.
“The all-day bus tours will visit several facilities with presentations at selected places. Presentations will cover topics ranging from referral processes and eligibility criteria to discussions about the types of treatment on offer,” she said.
“People attending the bus tours come from areas as diverse as youth workers, case managers, occupational therapists and justice workers. It gives workers a chance to see first-hand the organisations they may need to refer their own clients to.
“The bus tours are extremely popular with all three tours full, and several people on the waiting list. We have now run these tours for three years and will continue to do so, since they have proved to be the type of networking and professional development that workers are looking for.
“Bringing the alcohol and other drugs sector closer to the broader health and human services sectors gives us a chance to orient services from other areas to our industry and allows our member organisations to showcase their own business. It is wonderful to see other sectors embrace what we are doing and to give workers more information to better help the people they see.
ATDC CEO Jann Smith said she is looking forward to hearing feedback from both organisations and workers who participated in the bus tour.
