Brooker Highway Junction Upgrades

Posted on

The designs for the $32 million Brooker Highway Junction Upgrades at Elwick, Goodwood and Howard Roads have been released to the public.

The designs will be available for viewing at the Glenorchy City Council offices from this Tuesday for the next seven weeks, and are also available online.

The upgrades will improve the efficiency of the Brooker Highway, improve traffic flow, minimise peak-time bottlenecks, and improve connections between local communities.

The Australian Government has committed $25.6 million towards the $32 million project and the Tasmanian Government $6.4 million. The project was identified as a high priority in the 2012 Strategic Review of the Brooker Highway.

Proposed works include realigning the junctions at Elwick and Goodwood Roads to form one signal-controlled intersection, replacing the Howard Road roundabout with a new signal-controlled intersection, and coordinating the traffic lights at both intersections for efficient traffic flows.

Apart from the Tasman Bridge, the Brooker Highway carries the highest volumes of traffic in the State. This project is vital to address the productivity traps and poor traffic efficiency at these junctions

The plans will be on display at the Glenorchy City Council offices from Tuesday, 10 February until Friday, 27 March 2015. Further information and artists impressions of the upgraded junctions are available from www.transport.tas.gov.au/infrastructure_projects
