TasWater’s surging earnings approaching $300 million 4

TASWATER is making a lot more money than forecast and Tasmania’s Economic Regulator says it can afford to speed up the transition to fixed water and sewerage pricing.

The regulator’s 2015 Water and Sewerage Price Determination Investigation draft report says TasWater’s revenue has been significantly under­estimated for the past two financial years.

Revenue is set to exceed the forecast by a significant amount again in 2014-15.

TasWater’s earnings for this financial year will be about $290 million, which is $34 million above what the three once-separate water corporations forecast in 2012.

Before water meters were introduced, water and sewerage charges were determined by the assessed annual value of a property.

TasWater was given 10 years from 2010 to implement the water meter pricing changes, but the regulator now wants that process sped up.
