China’s eyes will be on Tasmania when the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Madam Peng Liyuan visit our state this month.

The visit will not only boost our global profile, it will build on our economic and cultural ties with our largest trading partner.

The Liberal Government values and appreciates our relationship with China, and the unprecedented opportunities this visit presents.

We are working hard to ensure that we leverage every opportunity from this historic occasion.

Tourism Tasmania has a dedicated campaign designed to make the most of these opportunities in China, our number one international tourist market, including:

• Tapping into popular Chinese social media platforms Weibo and Wechat to build on our followers and engage through activities including a chance to win a trip to Tasmania;
• Delivering key messages, images and video through an existing Memorandum of Understanding with Qantas Airlines to our key trade partners in Hong Kong and China;
• Tourism Tasmania’s Pan Asia Director Ms Vivian Chow and China Manager Ms Lynn Wang will be in Tasmania during the visit to deliver the campaign on the ground and translate to Chinese visitors;
• Leveraging from travel portals including Qyer.com, which has nearly 10 million users and five million mobile app users. The site’s Chief Operating Officer Jinghui Cai will be visiting Tasmania; and
• Participating in the Golden Key Food and Wine Guide, which has a print run of 120,000 and is distributed through China Eastern Airlines.

The Chinese President’s visit to our state will without doubt help us to reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania every year by 2020.

We are working closely with the tourism and hospitality sectors to ensure we are well prepared to roll out the welcome mat and provide a first class experience to all our visitors.
Will Hodgman, Premier Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
