LOVE MARRIAGE IN KABUL – WINNER OF THE AUDIENCE AWARD FOR BEST DOCUMENTARY AT THE SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL 2014

6.30pm
November 27

The State Cinema Hobart

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2014 Sydney Film Festival and a finalist in The Walkley Awards, Love Marriage in Kabul is a compelling human drama, played out in a heart-rending setting, where the stakes are always high. The film follows Mahboba Rawi – a strong-willed Afghan-Australian woman and the founder of the charity Mahboba’s Promise, which helps orphans and widows in Afghanistan – on one of her regular trips back to her birth country. It takes us deep inside Afghani culture and customs as Mahboba negotiates the marriage of one of the orphans with the reluctant father of the would-be bride.

Director Amin Palangi, an Iranian-Australian documentary filmmaker, will appear ‘In Conversation’, following the screening.

This SPECIAL EVENT SCREENING will benefit the charity Mahboba’s Promise, which works to support widows and orphans in Afghanistan. Tickets $25 Concessions $20. Tickets are available at: http://lovemarriageinkabul.com/,
