People and organisations with an interest in Legal Aid are encouraged to participate in the review of the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania (LACT).

Earlier this month the Government announced a review to consider governance and membership of the Legal Aid Commission, the management of grants of legal assistance, the use of private legal practitioners to deliver services, and the interaction between the LACT and Community Legal Centres.

Public notices will be placed in the three major Tasmanian newspapers tomorrow seeking feedback and submissions to the review.

Anyone with an interest in the operation of the LACT is invited to provide input to the review by making a written submission or meeting with the Honourable Peter Evans, who has been appointed to undertake the review.

During the consultation period Mr Evans will be available to meet with interested persons in Burnie, Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.

The consultation process will continue until Friday December 12 and the review is expected to take approximately 3 months to complete.
