Tasmania is preparing to roll out the welcome mat and provide a first class experience ahead of the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit later this month.

The eyes of the world will be on our state and we want everyone to see Tasmania is a unique place, with beautiful produce and friendly people.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our state, and Brand Tasmania’s new film is one of the many ways we are making sure we make the most of this.

The film captures the stories of four Chinese people who now call Tasmania home and will promote Tasmania on China’s YouTube equivalent site, YouKu.

The film also highlights the importance of hospitality businesses being prepared to host Chinese tourists and the need to demonstrate cultural understanding.

It was encouraging to today see Hobart cafe Daci and Daci taking a step towards being “China ready”, launching an English and Mandarin menu.

China is our number one international tourist market with a record 20,400 Chinese tourists visiting Tasmania in the 12 months to June.

The Chinese President’s visit to our state will without doubt help us to reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state every year by 2020.
