The pending arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping and its significance for Tasmania cannot be underestimated.
Former Labor Premier Lara Giddings says tomorrow will be a momentous day for the State.
“For President Xi Jinping to include Tasmania in his itinerary is an enormous privilege,” Ms Giddings said.
“His visit to Tasmania will reverberate right around the world.
“President Xi’s visit proves how important trade missions are to build relations between trading partners.
“Often these trade trips are viewed with scepticism but tomorrow’s visit highlights exactly the sort of value they can provide.
“Increasing trade with China will help create jobs for Tasmanians.
“I congratulate Premier Will Hodgman on building on the work of the previous government and working with Tasmanian businesses to make the most of this visit by President Xi.
“This opportunity is above politics, it’s about enhancing the future of the place we all love so much.
“I wish all involved in President Xi’s visit the best of luck and look forward to witnessing the benefits to Tasmania that will flow from his trip in the years to come.”
