The Liberal Government today reaffirmed our commitment to the hospitality industry with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The hospitality industry is our third largest employer with more than 20,000 Tasmanians working across 2,000 businesses, contributing three per cent of the Gross State Product.

Our recognition of the importance of the industry is highlighted in the MoU that I signed together with the Tasmanian Hospitality Association today, which will:

• Foster a strong collaborative relationship between the THA and the Government;
• Provide a framework for a productive and open relationship;
• Provide a mechanism, for sharing information and research; and
• Provide the basis to develop strategies and undertake initiatives that will contribute to the development of a contemporary hospitality industry in Tasmania.

This MoU will allow us to better work together with the THA to further develop a vibrant and productive hospitality industry in Tasmania.

The hospitality industry is critically important to growing our tourism industry and helping to reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state each year by 2020.

That’s why we’re providing $1.5 million over four years to allow the industry to implement the Tasmanian Hospitality Industry Strategic Plan, maintain the Workforce Development Initiative and implement a Customer Service Program.
