The Tasmanian Tourism Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of our industry over the past year, and what a year it has been.

Tasmania has recorded a record number of visitors, China now ranks as our number one source of international visitors and the Lonely Planet ranked our island as the fourth best region in the world to visit in 2015.

These accolades and recognition would not have been possible without the dedicated work of the people behind our tourism industry.

Congratulations to the 23 winners at tonight’s awards, and thankyou to the industry as a whole for making tourism one of our competitive strengths.

The Tourism Minister’s Young Achiever award winner Travis Tiddy is shining example of why our industry is what it is today.

A fifth generation Queenstowner, Travis has provided the inspiration for the hugely successful Queenstown Heritage & Arts Festival.

This biennial three-day festival has breathed new life into the West Coast, creating significant social, economic and cultural benefits.

The spotlight will continue to shine on Tasmania particularly later this month when we host the Chinese President and Restaurant Australia’s Invite the World to Dinner.

These events together with our dedicated and professional industry will without doubt help the Liberal Government to reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state every year by 2020.
