The imminent season of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Theatre Royal has extended it’s season by a week, five weeks before the show has even opened!
Produced by Craig Wellington in association with the Tasmanian Theatre Unit Trust and the Old Nick Company Inc. the production follows recent blockbusters including Les Miserables (2008) and three Tasmanian premieres: Miss Saigon (2009), Monty Python’s Spamalot (2010) and last year’s triumph The Phantom of the Opera.
“Once again we have assembled the best available Tasmanian voices and an artistic team second to none. These dedicated, talented people and scores more people backstage are working tirelessly to ensure a magnificent theatrical experience,” said Craig Wellington. “We decided to put extra dates on sale now, not later, because sales are good and we want to ensure the public can get great seats early,” Craig Wellington said. “There are still thousands of brilliant seats available across the entire extended season. But the show definitely cannot extend beyond Saturday 22 November.”
“We got our choice of show right I believe. Hot on the heels of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, it made sense to us to present his other greatest hit, with superb lyrics by Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar. This will be a thrilling new production of the world’s most successful rock-opera, famed for its beautiful music and powerful lyrics,” Wellington said.
CAST AND CREW: BRETT BUDGEON will be singing the role of Jesus and SCOTT FARROW will be singing the role of Judas. No-one will forget Brett’s brilliant portrayal of The Phantom in last year’s The Phantom of the Opera, nor Scott’s superb performance as Chris, the leading man in Miss Saigon.
We also welcome back to the Hobart stage PATRICK WILLIAMS as Pilate (Hair National Tour / An Officer and a Gentleman World Premiere) and are proud to introduce LEAH WOODBERRY to homegrown audiences as Mary Magdalene.
