On behalf of the Liberal Government, I was pleased to present National Medals this afternoon to correctional staff in recognition of their dedication to the Tasmania Prison Service.
The National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law, or in times of emergency or natural disaster.
In the latest round of honours, 24 Tasmanian Prison Service staff have been awarded National Medals, while a further seven received the 1st Clasp to the National Medal.
The National Medal, which is awarded by the Governor General, recognises 15 years of service, with clasps presented for each additional decade.
The collective years of wisdom and experience of these recipients contributes greatly to a safer Tasmania and all must be commended for their unwavering commitment.
