Treasurer Peter Gutwein’s intimidatory tactics have reached a new level with a direct threat issued to teachers and nurses.
In a letter to Unions Tasmania, the Treasurer warns front line health and education staff will be cut if the unions don’t cave in to the Government’s demands.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon says workers have a right to feel betrayed by the Liberal Government.
“Before the election the Liberals promised over and over that front line services would be protected,” Mr Bacon said.
“Now the Treasurer is directly threatening the futures of nurses and teachers to pay for his party’s extravagant election promises.
“And why does Peter Gutwein insist on negotiating through the media and parliament instead of sitting down with his workforce?
“The Liberals got themselves into a budget mess by over-promising in the election campaign, now they’re trying to make scapegoats of workers.”
