The Liberal Government will work collaboratively with other States and Territories on a nationwide approach to the issue of medicinal cannabis.
I raised the need for a collaborative approach to this complex issue at COAG and I welcome NSW Premier Mike Baird’s announcement today to progress this issue.
This is a welcome outcome which reinforces the State Government’s support of clinical trials and potential use of medicinal cannabis in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to evidence–based medicine and a scientific approach to health care, and supports clinical trials where they are properly conducted through the national medicines regulatory framework.
We welcome the opportunity to work with our State and Federal counterparts including the New South Wales working group, to share information and explore how medicinal cannabis could be trialled collaboratively to scientifically evaluate its potential therapeutic benefits to patients suffering from a range of conditions.
