Alderman Marti Zucco said today that “The current postal voting system for local government is flawed and must be immediately amendment and in line with State and Federal elections”

Alderman Zucco is calling for Local Government elections to be in line with other tiers of Government and be compulsory and at the ballot box.

Alderman Zucco also said that “Postal voting has too many issues and could be subjected to corruption I have had discussions with many other Alderman in other municipalities with similar concerns”

The number of calls that I received from members of the public were based on;
• I did not receive my ballot
• This was up to the weekend of the 24th October
• My wife received hers I did not receive mine
• I received two ballot Papers
• I received three Ballot papers
• My Papers were sent to my old address (but I had changed my postal address)
• What day is polling day
• Where are the polling booths

Alderman Zucco added that “One of the most constant questions I was asked was “what day is polling day and where are the Polling Booths” what is really concerning was a person spoke to me at midday on the 28th October wanting to know where the polling booth was!

This system has shown that it has problems and must be in line with State and federal elections and be Compulsory and at the Ballot box for a vast number of reasons including that why should 50% of the electorate decides who represents the electorate.

In closing “Immediate steps must be taken to ensure that local government elections reflect the views of more than 50% and the current system fails in many ways”
