Greens Education spokesperson Nick McKim MP today called on Minister for Education, Jeremy Rockliff MP, to listen to students and keep the Guaranteeing Futures program.

“Mr Rockliff should listen to students who today sent a very strong message that pathway planners are crucial for the future of our young people,” said Mr McKim.

“Teachers will simply not have the time to build relationships with industry, and give the one-to-one career guidance to students which pathway planners currently provide.”

“Mr Rockliff is abolishing a program that has delivered consistent improvements in retention rates, and wants to replace people with a computer program. It just won’t work.”

“Pathway planners build relationships with students, and often are one of the few people who can help young people believe in themselves. They give critical support to so many young people and must be retained.”

“The government is placing the future career prospects of young Tasmanians at risk, particularly those who have challenges in their lives” Mr McKim said.
