Greens Leader Christine Milne on passage of anti-equality marriage motion at the Tasmanian Liberals conference:
“Last century discrimination is alive and well in the Tasmanian Liberal Party. This is backwards thinking on display for all of Tasmania and Australia to see.
“No wonder Tony Abbott felt right at home amongst his Liberal Party colleagues in Tasmania. 25 years after gay people campaigning for their rights in Salamanca in were arrested in 1989 they still want discrimination to continue.
“This is a backwards government that is scared of the future opportunities for Tasmania. They want to take us back to discrimination, back to old industry and as far a way as possible from the exciting possibilities of innovation and equal opportunity that we should all be sharing in.”
