I am pleased to have the opportunity to represent the Liberal Government at Landcare Tasmania’s Annual General Meeting, which will both acknowledge and celebrate the enormous contribution Landcare and its people have made, and continue to make to Tasmania.
Over the last 25 years, Landcare has brought together individuals, groups, industry and Government alike, to share in a common goal. Not just to bring attention to environmental issues, but to create positive change, the fruits of which are all around us.
Just last year, Landcarers from across the State volunteered over 105,000 hours and in excess of $1.7 million to the state economy.
Many farms have changed their practices, resulting in boosted productivity, reduced run-off and improved soil quality.
Landcare has also played a significant role in public education. Farmers, rural landholders, community groups and schoolchildren have all benefited from Landcare’s emphasis on practical teaching and learning.
The Liberal Government remains strong supporters of the agricultural sector.
