… TO REMEMBER BABIES WHO HAVE DIED
Sands Tasmania is holding a special event to remember the babies who have died. The event titled ‘Blow Bubbles for your baby that died’ is a family event which will be celebratory and significant for bereaved parents.
The event is being held on Sunday 2nd November, 11am to 2pm, at Tolosa St Park in Glenorchy and will include a special ceremony/lighting of candles, a banner of names, blowing of bubbles, and fun activities for children and families. Over 100 guests will be in attendance, including three members of parliament.
Sands Tasmania is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes awareness, parent support and understanding following the death of a baby occurring anytime from conception to newborn. Sands across Australia provides immediate and ongoing support to bereaved parents, families and friends.
Sands Tasmania President, Lyndy Bowden, said “We are very pleased that so many people are attending and for the support from politicians. This event is significant to Sands and the local community. For bereaved parents, contact with other parents enables those with recent experiences to learn that the intensity and longevity of their grief is normal. For others it is an opportunity to support, recognise and remember a loved one”
Sands Tasmania is pleased to announce that we will have three politicians attending the event to support and recognise the important work of Sands in the community, these are:
• The Hon Elise Archer, MP Speaker of the House of Assembly, Liberal Member for Denison.
• Scott Bacon MP, Labor Member for Denison, Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Racing, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
• Cassy O’Connor, Tasmanian Greens Member for Denison.
“We love holding events such as these as it is a rare chance to remember our precious babies in a positive and enjoyable context and to include friends and family in that experience” Ms Bowden said.
Two new Sands publications will be available at the event, these are; Moments: Capturing memories of your precious baby and Life, Loss, Hope: Surviving the death of your baby.
“Sands not only provides immediate support for bereaved parents, we also have established a community support network across Australia. We run local support groups, services and events such as these within our areas. Sands are an organisation founded and supported by bereaved parent volunteers, we appreciate support from politicians, media and our local communities” Ms Bowden concluded.
