The Greens’ position of advocating a huge cash grab from Hydro Tasmania while opposing power price relief for Tasmanians shows how out of touch they are.

For years, the Greens have been saying the abolition of the carbon tax will destroy Hydro, yet now they say Hydro has hundreds of millions of dollars the Government can take.

This Greens policy calls into question why they opposed Tasmanian families having their power bills reduced by an average of $164 as a result of the repeal of the Carbon Tax.

The Greens showed how little concern they have for average Tasmanians by opposing households and small businesses getting some much needed price relief, claiming Hydro couldn’t afford to lose the carbon tax income. Now they turn around and say they could take an extra $220 million from Hydro if they were still in government.

The Liberal Government supports Tasmanians having the lowest possible power prices which are fair and sustainable. We support a strong and viable Hydro Tasmania which is allowed to operate sustainably.

That’s why we are now working to develop Tasmania’s first whole-of-state Energy Strategy – something which was sadly lacking when the previous Labor-Green Government was letting power prices spiral out of control.

The Greens have confirmed this week what they stand for is Tasmanians paying higher power prices, and running Hydro into the ground to pay for their ridiculous policies.
