The Liberal Government is committed to improving road safety in our State so that fewer Tasmanian families are left to pick up the pieces of road trauma.
That’s why we welcome today’s launch of the Road Safety Advisory Council’s third Real Mates campaign.
Real Mates is a campaign that goes to the heart of the message that road safety is everyone’s business.
Targeted at men aged between 17 and 25 who are most at risk of being killed or injured on our roads, the campaign says that real mates do not let mates drink drive.
One in four of all serious road crashes, those that involve fatalities or serious injuries, involve drivers who are aged between 17 and 25.
A staggering 37 per cent of serious casualty crashes in which alcohol was a factor are also aged between 17 and 25.
This campaign has a clear message for this age group, and indeed all Tasmanian road users: look after your mate by stopping him from driving after he’s been drinking.
