Health Minister Michael Ferguson has contradicted Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma by tonight (Thursday) admitting that Tasmanian public housing will be privatised.
In response to questioning about a $1.4 billion asset reduction in the Health and Human Services budget papers it has been revealed that the title of 4000 properties will be transferred from Housing Tasmania.
“This is a betrayal of public housing tenants and a broken promise not to privatise public assets from the Hodgman Government,” Shadow Health and Human Services Minister Rebecca White said.
“The Liberal Party is failing in its duty to stand up for vulnerable Tasmanians.
“This exposes thousands of Tasmanian families to the vagaries of the private rental market.
“It has taken nearly two days for these bumbling ministers to get their stories straight and actually answer very straightforward questioning from the Labor Party.
“Michael Ferguson waited until almost midnight to update the house of this significant asset transfer, hoping to avoid scrutiny.
“The fact is, the Hodgman Government has broken an election promise and let down thousands of Tasmanian families.”
