Greens Leader Kim Booth today called on Premier Hodgman to apologise for dismissing unions and public sector workers’ claims as ‘childish’.
Anyone whose job is under threat is entitled to ask their union to make a representation, and they should be taken seriously, said Greens Leader and Treasury spokesperson, Kim Booth MP.
“The Premier is holding a gun to the head of 1,200 public sector workers who all deserve better than to be told that their concerns are childish,” Mr Booth said.
“No worker should be subject to abuse and uncertainty, when they are simply concerned about whether they will still have a job”
“Mr Hodgman needs to apologise to the public sector workers and their union representatives and he needs to tell them precisely where the job losses will come from.”
“There is a legitimate fear within the Tasmanian community that these 1,200 jobs may come from our hospitals and other essential services.”
“Tasmanians should not be the ones suffering from the rash election promises made by the Liberals, as they bought their way into power, but it is public sector workers whom are now paying with their jobs”
“The Liberal government has painted itself into a corner, where it will have to accept responsibility for any industrial action that follows from this,” said Mr Booth.
