For release: Monday, 15 September, 2014: A little over a week ago music industry charity, Support Act, launched their ambitious, crowd funded fundraising appeal and today they’re thrilled to announce that they have reached almost 60% of their goal of raising $100,000 to help provide financial relief to music professionals facing illness, injury or some other life crisis.

The campaign was kicked off in style when the ultimate reward for the campaign, The Golden Nugget, consisting of a brand new Hyundai i20 Active, automatic 5 door Phantom Black hatchback (supported by Melbourne City Hyundai) and a $10,000 voucher redeemable for instruments from Allans Billy Hyde was purchased by new Sydney broadcast and creative facility for the entertainment industry, The X Studio within minutes of the campaign going live.

Since the launch, eleven lucky fans will be receiving birthday messages from some of Australia’s most well loved artists including Guy Sebastian, Ian Moss, John Butler, John Williamson, Josh Pyke, Paul Dempsey, Seth Sentry, The Potbelleez and Tina Arena. Six music professionals have also supported the Bandwagon campaign with mentoring sessions from industry professionals including Bernard Zuel (SMH), Hilltop Hoods, Kirk Pengilly (INXS), Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment) and Something for Kate’s Paul Dempsey.

We have also been able to assist some live music fans with ticket rewards thanks to The Dainty Group, A Day On The Green, Frontier Touring and Oztix and one lucky Eskimo Joe fan, and eleven of his closest friends, will be dining at Friends restaurant in Perth followed by an exclusive, live and acoustic performance from the band.

Three Songs for the Road production rewards have also been purchased in our first week with Universal Music Australia being the first record company to jump on the Bandwagon purchasing producer reward with Eric J. A second Songs for the Road reward with Dennis Dowlut was also sold to Sydney songstress, Sera Rose and the third, with producer Robert Conley, has been purchased by APRA |AMCOS and will be donated as an additional prize component to the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition which is currently underway (www.apraamcos.com.au/vandayoungsongcomp).

Support Act would also like to take this opportunity to thank some new supporters to the campaign including Megan Washington and Tim Finn who have both generously donated their talent and time with Feast with Friends rewards at Sydney’s Rockpool and Longrain respectively.

Chief Executive of Support Act, Joanna Cave, said today: “We are delighted that 50% of our target has been pledged so far. But of course we cannot afford to relax just yet – crowd funding works by delivering the money pledged only once the target is reached by the deadline of 30 September. There are 17 days remaining to get on Bandwagon and snap up one of the amazing experiences we have available – for example, just imagine celebrating a special occasion in a private dining room at Rockpool with 11 of your of friends, listening to a private performance from Megan Washington? Such opportunities don’t come around too often!”

Bandwagon is a crowd funding appeal via the platform Pozible, with the aim of raising $100,000 for Australia’s music industry charity. If we successfully reach our target, the crowd-funded campaign will be the biggest of its kind for an Australian charity.

Support Act is a charity, unique in Australia, providing financial relief to music professionals facing illness, injury or some other life crisis. Support Act helps music professionals in all fields of the industry including singers, songwriters, composers, musicians, roadies, techies, managers, lighting techs and everyone in between.

Sadly, with so few safety nets available to people working in the music industry, demand for Support Act’s services is rising dramatically and has increased by 500% in the last year alone. Support Act receives no money from the government and must raise every dollar it needs to run its vital services.

Support Act have collaborated with a broad range of music stars, music industry personalities and venues on Bandwagon to offer one-off ‘money can’t buy’ experiences and ‘limited edition’ products.

The unique rewards on offer have been designed to provide extraordinary experiences for music fans and career development opportunities for those seeking a career in music. Money simply cannot buy a phone call on your birthday from your favourite artist, or an opportunity to have your song professionally produced and reviewed by the hottest names in the industry.

With rewards starting as low as $5.00 (Because You Care reward) comprising a download of Cut Copy’s Where I’m Going and a shout out to each supporter in a specially produced lyrical video, everyone and anyone, from music lovers to musicians to millionaires can get behind this very worthy cause.

Terms and conditions apply to each reward and can be found at www.supportact.org.au/bandwagon/.

Alan Crabbe, Co-Founder and Director of Pozible, said today “”It’s exciting to see the Australian community get together and support this project, as well as the high calibre of musicians and industry experts donating their skills for this campaign, which shows just how important this initiative is.”

All the money raised from the campaign will be used by Support Act to help people in crisis.

See attached for a full list of campaign rewards and terms and conditions.
