The Liberal Government is committed to building on its competitive strengths, especially tourism.
We have set a target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state every year by 2020. The China Mission kicks off this week and will help us to reach this.
Tourism Tasmania is leading the mission that’s made up of 16 Tasmanian tourism operators, which is a significant increase from the six that took part last year.
The mission will tour our key international markets; Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China, and attend travel trade, media and consumer events.
We can’t ask for a better advertisement for the state than the people behind the experiences. This is an opportunity for our operators to foster and build on relationships with stakeholders, industry representatives and airlines in Asia.
China is our number one international tourist market with a record 20,400 Chinese tourists visiting our island in the 12 months to June, a 61 per cent increase according to the latest Tourism Research Australia International Visitor Survey.
Tourism Tasmania has invested $120,000 to deliver this year’s mission, while operators have paid their own travel costs.
The operators include:
• AusAsia Travel
• Bridestowe Lavender Estate
• Curringa Farm
• Experience Tasmania
• Federal Group
• Happy Tassie Travel
• Inkeepers Tasmania
• Par Avion Wilderness Tours
• Pennicott Wilderness Journeys
• Platypus House
• RACT Destinations
• Sorell Fruit Farm
• Port Arthur Historic Site
• Tasmanian Air Adventures
• Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park
• The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel
