August is Anti-Discrimination Month around the world. Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) are presenting a movie experience to highlight the widespread and pervasive discrimination that characterises modern society.

“The notion that humans are superior to all other life forms is commonly held. It is one of the most fundamental reasons for humanity’s exploitation of nonhuman animals, and the careless destruction of our natural environment. The Superior Human? is the first documentary to systematically challenge this pompous, self-destructive ideology. The production team and speakers include world-leading academics in their respective fields.” said Chris Simcox, spokesperson for AACT.

The film starts by cynically poking at a list of 18 commonly referenced reasons for the supposed superiority of humans. It then examine each of these in some detail. Finally, it asks if all these reasons are unfairly subjective and shows viewers how the human species rates in terms of survival.

“Speciesism is a form of discrimination that many people use to class some nonhumans as food, and others as companions. We want to bring an end to speciesism as we see no real difference between a dog and pig, for example. They are both sentient beings, and therefore feel pain, and appreciate affection. The Superior Human? raises many questions that help us to examine our prejudice towards other species. We hope to open the minds of viewers to the possibility of having a caring and respectful attitude to all species. Please come and share the experience with us.” said Mr Simcox
