Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on Health Minister Michael Ferguson to pay back the $776 he spent on a luxury taxi for a trip to Hobart.
“If Mr Ferguson has a shred of conscience he should immediately pay the money back,” Mr Green said.
“It shows he is completely out of touch with everyday Tasmanians.
“Michael Ferguson is so arrogant he refused to even try to defend his actions in Parliament today.
“Michael Ferguson is so arrogant and slippery that he won’t come out and face the music. If he’s happy for taxpayers to pay the $776 why won’t he defend himself?
“Regardless of the savings in Ministerial travel costs being trumpeted by Will Hodgman, I can only assume from sacking drivers, taxpayers are rightly horrified that Mr Ferguson has abused his position in this way.”
Mr Green called on Premier Will Hodgman to put an immediate stop to such extravagances by Mr Ferguson or any other member of his Government.
“It is inappropriate to expect taxpayers to foot this bill and just shows how out of touch the Liberals have become just months after coming to Government,” Mr Green said.
“The amount of money Mr Ferguson spent on this luxury taxi would fill the average family car with petrol for at least two months.
“We will be keeping a close eye on any further excesses this Government indulges in.”
