The Liberal Government has serious questions to answer over damning revelations that the Triabunna Port could be sold to Jan Cameron and Graeme Wood.

Tasports has revealed Liberal Ministers have been briefed on negotiations to sell the Triabunna wharf facility to Triabunna Investments.

“It is the height of hypocrisy for the Liberals to be selling this critical strategic asset to the very environmentalists that Guy Barnett established this committee to set out to target,” Labor Lyons MP Rebecca White said.

“In opposition the Liberals talked tough about a compulsory acquisition of the Triabunna wood chip mill but they are now complicit in selling prime deep port access, which is arguably more important to the future of the region.

“Worse than that, this is a clear breach of the Liberal Government’s promise not to privatise public assets.”

Ms White said the Parliamentary Committee should call both shareholder ministers, Treasurer Peter Gutwein and Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding, to answer questions about the revelations.

“How much is the Government planning to sell the port to Triabunna Investments for?

“Why has the Government broken its promise to sell public assets?

“After two days trawling over old ground, it is now the Government which has questions to answer over this damning revelation.”
