I am pleased to announce that Richard Connock has been appointed to the important role of Tasmania’s Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner.

Mr Connock has been acting in the role of Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner since January of this year following the resignation of Mr Leon Atkinson-MacEwen.

He practised law for almost 20 years and since 2007 he has been employed in senior roles within the Office of the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner.

The Ombudsman’s role is to investigate the administrative actions of public authorities to ensure that their actions are lawful, reasonable and fair.

As with previous Ombudsmen, Mr Connock will also serve as the Health Complaints Commissioner, who acts independently of government to promote and protect the rights of consumers who use health services, and to help resolve problems between consumers and providers of health services.

These are important roles which give Tasmanians confidence that public authorities are performing their duties properly and appropriately.

I congratulate Mr Connock on his appointment.
Vanessa Goodwin, Attorney-General
