The Liberal Government is committed to improving the health of all Tasmanians and delivering the services they need and deserve.
The pouring of the final foundation for the North West Regional Hospital Cancer Centre today is a sign of our commitment to this and to regional Tasmania.
The addition of the second-floor concrete foundation is another significant step towards the completion of this vital health service for the North West region.
The $32 million state, federally and privately funded cancer centre is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2015.
Existing chemotherapy, support and education facilities will be transferred to the state-of-the-art centre in mid-2015.
Importantly, radiation therapy will be offered on the North West for the first time from early 2016, when the process of calibrating the radiation machine is complete.
Once operational, the centre will enable locals to receive life-saving radiation treatment without the burden of travelling hours to and from clinics in Launceston or Hobart.
The Liberal Government is committed to rebuilding regional Tasmania and providing the essential services that are needed to create a healthy and productive community.
Our Government will deliver a better and fairer health care system for all Tasmanians.
