Convict City plays their long-standing rivals Devil State on Saturday, 2nd August.
The two leagues come head to head after the recent national tournament, the Great Southern Slam. The
Convicts are hungry for a win after some challenging games in the top division of the tournament. Devil State
are yet to secure a win against the Convicts but have been training hard under their dedicated Team Australia
coach, Paul Campbell – a drawcard in roller derby where it is normal for team skaters to alternate coaching
training sessions.
A highlight of the 2014 season, this is the first bout on the Convicts’ home turf since the season opener in
February after playing various away games interstate.
A relatively new, yet fast growing sport, roller derby is moving into the mainstream, with Junior and Men’s
leagues on offer. Hobart Junior Roller Derby and the Bass Strait Brawlers are forces to be reckoned with
alongside the four women’s state leagues.
