The Liberal Government is continuing to deliver on its commitments to support Tasmania’s agricultural sector.
King Island dairy farmers are reaping the rewards of an innovative grants program aimed at boosting renewable energy use on the Bass Strait islands.
Eight dairy farms on King Island have already installed solar hot water systems and another will soon make the switch as a result of the King and Flinders Island Renewable Energy Fund.
The project is one of four funded under the scheme this year, which delivers renewable energy innovations adding direct and indirect benefits to Bass Strait islands residents.
The farmers were jointly provided with $202,000 to install evacuated tubes and energy storage systems for solar hot water.
Farmers are reporting savings of up to 50 per cent off their hot water costs, which is the largest part of the dairy shed energy bill on King Island.
The King Island dairy farm initiative demonstrates the value of investing in small scale renewable energy and has the potential to be rolled out more broadly on the Tasmanian mainland.
The Liberal Government is committed to proactively attracting investment, retaining industry and creating jobs, growth and opportunities by making Tasmania the most competitive place in Australia to do business.
