Ten Days is looking to Tasmania’s west coast, partnering with Landscape Art Research Queenstown
(LARQ) and founding artist Raymond Arnold, to bring the LARQ Effect to Hobart’s Gallery Ten, the Ten
Days public exhibition space.
The LARQ Effect is an exhibition demonstrating the broad reach of this Queenstown-based art enterprise,
highlighting the power of art to bring people and their creative ideas together, with the complex
landscape of Tasmania’s west providing the backdrop for the work.
Ten Days Artistic Director David Malacari said he was excited to host the LARQ Effect and was very proud
of the close relationship with LARQ which has seen projects produced in the 2007, 2009 and 2013
festivals.
“We are committed to supporting artistic endeavours across Tasmania and have great regard for not-forprofit
studios such as LARQ, which provides workshops, exhibitions and contributes to the development
of artists in the west of the state,” Mr Malacari said.
“This is the second exhibition in a series, which acknowledges some of the significant partnerships that
have been generated over the years between Ten Days and communities across Tasmania.”
LARQ founder Raymond Arnold said he looked forward to again working with Ten Days and sharing some
of the work LARQ had generated recently, including pieces from print workshops and local artists as well
as paintings by British artist Richard Kenton Webb from the international residency program.
“LARQ as a whole represents both an exercise in wishful thinking and a determined bid to give artists
agency within this ‘colonised wilderness’,” Mr Arnold said.
Raymond Arnold relocated from Hobart to Queenstown in 2006, the subject of much of his rich art
practice over many years, and founded LARQ – a complex non-profit enterprise located in Queenstown on
Tasmania’s west coast.
LARQ hosts international art residencies, an exhibition program, art workshops, individual studio practice
and rich conversations with young artists, the community and visitors from across the globe.
The LARQ Effect is a free exhibition open to the public, running from 5 June – 25 July 2014, hosted at
Gallery Ten located at 71 Murray Street, Hobart.
